How We Got Hooked

Harriet Zucker conceived What's the Hook? to document the changing face of the community. A 12-year resident of Red Hook, she has been involved with the community beginning with the giant snowstorm in 1996 (no one could get out) through the community gardens, through the fight against the garbage dump, and into the discussions on land use…often camera in hand.

“When I first moved here, everyone recognized everyone” Now there are a lot more but it still happens.

Harriet has also had quite an involvement with the “wild dogs of Red Hook” rescuing some, caring for lots and finally rehoming the last of the line”

She has a great sense of community and has always reveled in the sense of community in Red Hook. For Harriet, What's the Hook? is an opportunity for everyone in the community to work on a single project regardless of the fact that they may have differing personal views or visions of Red Hook.

Harriet works as both a Set Decorator in film and as a photographer. As a photographer she is represented by Getty Images and the Robin Rice Gallery. She has also shown at several galleries in the NYC area and out of town. Her work is part of the permanent display at Bloomingdale's Soho.

Harriet's most recent film work can be seen in The Departed and The Good Shepherd and in several locally filmed TV shows.
